TWILIGHT BEY

Mr. Twilight Bey is the lead Social Intervention Specialist™ and co-founder of the London based Social Solutions Institute for Research & Development (SSI). He has more than 18 Years of education and experience in life management skills, social literacy development, conflict mediation, gang intervention, popular education, facilitation and community & civic organising. Mr. Bey grew up and lived for 26 years in the economically deprived, gang and drug affected communities of South Central Los Angeles. The work he has undertaken spans a broad range of US and International Communities and Institutions. Contributing to local and international efforts in youth and community focused initiatives e.g. violence reduction strategies, capacity building, service learning, mentoring, survival programmes, community building and leadership development.

Twilight Bey was also a key figure in the initiation of the Peace Talks in 1988 between rival Los Angeles Street Gangs. This led to him becoming a key organiser of the Cease Fire Agreement between the Bloods & Crips of Watts, California in 1992. Under the mentorship of Celebrity & Activist Jim Brown, President of Amer-I-Can Inc., the founding members of Amer-I-Can were able to affect positive change throughout the County of Los Angeles in Schools & Neighbourhoods adversely affected by anti-productive behaviour, drugs and violence. These efforts have been adapted in similar communities across the United States and abroad.
Mr. Bey, now living in London has served as a consultant and inspirational speaker in the United Kingdom since 1994. He continues to travel to and from the United States and remains a key participant in the development of social intervention initiatives and services.
Mr. Bey serves as a co-founder of Amer-I-Can, Los Angeles Urban Peace & Justice Committee, the Amer-I-Can Foundation for Social Change, and the Community Self-Determination Institute. A valued contributor in these organisations Mr. Bey has helped to pioneer innovations and enhancements in the areas of education and social intervention. SSI is an organisation that thinks globally and acts locally to bring about positive individual, family and community transformation.
